I turned 30 last month. Leading up to the big day, I had let my husband (with much help from Annie) plan a surprise birthday party for me. It was really hard to not be in control of the situation. In fact, it was so painful, that I had to find something to keep my mind off the topic. My solution? Plan my own party, so that my attention and energy could be redirected into something I love to do: plan events.
The idea was to put something together that could be done easily on a Monday night (the actual date of my birthday) and would allow my friends with kids to come and bring their families. In addition, there are a lot of my friends who are pregnant or “thinking about kids,” therefore, I wanted it to be a non-alcoholic event. My brainiac solution: S’mores!
I went out and purchased a bunch of my favorite ingredients and researched creative s’mores combinations online. I came up with this list.
It was so hard for people to decide which one to make, so they made two. Or three. Here’s how those different s’mores look individually.
the oreo s’more
the strawberries n cream s’more
the salted caramel s’more
the mexican hot cocoa s’more
the peanut butter deluxe s’more
My favorite was the samoa s’more. I love caramel and coconut almost equally. It really helps if you toast up the coconut for a few minutes on the stove. This combination of sweet, crunchy, chewy and melty all in one bite is absolutely delicious. Mmmmm.
After the ingredients were compiled together, I displayed them in a fun and easy way. Yum. I could eat all this chocolate alone.
It was a really simple party idea that was low-cost, required very little preparation and everyone enjoyed the time with friends on a Monday evening. I hope that you try making some of these fun twists to the classic s’more!
